Got Questions? We’ve Got Answers
We know you're curious, so here are some of the most common questions we get about the Minnesota Civic Seal:
What is the Minnesota Civic Seal?
It's a proposed recognition for high school students in Minnesota who demonstrate excellence in civics education and participation
Who is eligible for the seal?
Any high school student who meets the criteria set by the state can earn the seal.
How do I earn the seal?
You'll need to complete civics coursework, participate in a civic project, and be involved in your community.
What kind of projects count?
Anything that addresses a real-world problem and requires you to take action and reflect on your efforts. This could be anything from organizing a voter registration drive to volunteering at a local nonprofit.
Does this mean more homework?
No way! It's about getting involved in the issues you care about. It's about taking what you learn in the classroom and putting it into action.
Does this cost money?
No! The criteria should be broad enough so that students from any background can earn the seal without personal costs.
How does this help my future?
The seal shows colleges and employers that you're not only academically successful, you're also a civically engaged and responsible citizen.
How can I help get the seal started?
Talk to your elected officials, get involved with the Minnesota Civic Educators Coalition, and tell your friends!
What if my school doesn't participate?
You should talk to your teachers and administrators and let them know you want to see your school participate.
